Welcome to another episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast! Today, we go behind the scenes of one of UK’s best content marketing campaigns of 2018 and, incidentally, one Exposure Ninja is proud to be behind. This campaign was shortlisted for two UK Search Awards in the “Best Use of Search – Finance” and “Best Use of Search – B2C” categories.
With us today on the podcast is Exposure Ninja’s very own Content Marketing Team Leader Helen Anglin. Helen has been working on this campaign for over a year and is here to unveil some of the strategies she used to completely transform this business’ visibility — turning it into one of the top lead generators in the highly competitive industry of Payment Protection Insurance (PPI).
One common question from prospective clients is ‘how can you write about my industry, when you don’t work in it?’ The secret is nothing sexier than hard graft and a lot of research! In this episode, you’ll hear how Helen has become nothing short of an expert on the topic of PPI - not by working in the industry, but by working on this campaign!
We’re super proud of her knowledge and the team’s hard work on this extremely successful campaign.
Grab a cuppa and enjoy the show!

Google’s recent changes around the Medic and Birthday updates are all focused on E-A-T, which stands for Expertise, Authority and Trust. In short, E-A-T are guidelines that help measure and assess businesses’ legitimacy in their field, and grant them visibility accordingly. E-A-T is a total shift in how Google recognises and rewards websites’ authority, so it’s really important when working on your website’s SEO that you understand exactly what E-A-T means for you.
On this week’s episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim chats with Dale Davies, Exposure Ninja’s very own Digital Strategy Manager. Dale’s got all the E-A-T on E-A-T, and we want to make sure you do, too!
We know that Google’s Search Quality Guidelines and understanding the algorithm as a whole are daunting tasks. But optimising your website for them need not be, and there are actions you can take right now to make sure you stay on top of your game and remain an authority figure in your field in the eye of Google. On the other hand, a lack of E-A-T could mean a drastic decline in trust, resulting in huge traffic and revenue drops. Don’t let this happen!
For the full E-A-T checklist to apply to your own website, tune in now and don’t forget to read Dale’s comprehensive guide, What is E-A-T?

In this week’s ‘behind the scenes’ episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim is once again joined by Lozz Newton, Facebook Ad wizard and podcast fan favourite!
This week, Lozz chats to Tim about two Facebook Ads client campaigns that he ran. The first is a board game company that was running a Kickstarter for a new game they were launching -- with a target of £100,000 to raise, Lozz enabled them to completely smash that target with the help of an awesomely executed Facebook Ad campaign, helping them raise just under £1.5M!!
The second campaign we cover in this episode couldn't be more different. This client was a Dental Law firm, which, as you can imagine is a pretty difficult field to generate exciting content for. When these guys started their Facebook Ads, their cost per acquisition (CPA) was around £300 which we managed to reduce to just £10, a reduction of 70%! Lozz walks us through what he did to achieve this reduction so you can replicate it for your own ad campaigns.

In this week’s exclusive ‘behind the scenes’ episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim is joined by the head of Project Management, Nic Tuxford. Nic heads up our team of awesome project managers, who are the beating heart of all of our client campaigns.
This week, Nic takes us behind the scenes of an incredible eCommerce client campaign -- we’ve been working with these guys for around 3 years and since they joined us we’ve seen them go from making $600 to over $1.3M per month in online sales!
Our ninjas have helped this client achieve incredible growth over the last 3 years through SEO and Content Marketing, but Nic is here to talk about a new arm of the campaign that has contributed to an outstanding surge in growth for this client over the last 9 months -- Predictive Keyword Marketing.
This is a super interesting strategy that came about through Nic’s experience working on marketing bricks and mortar stores. Fair warning, things get a little technical in places but we know you’re all switched on and will be able to keep up and grab those takeaways for your own marketing campaigns!
As always, let us know what you think, you can contact us via Facebook or Twitter @ExposureNinja and if you enjoy the show, don’t forget to leave us a review on iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify or wherever you get your podcasts from.

We've had a lot of feedback from you guys that you really enjoy the podcast episodes where Tim talks to the ninjas who work here at Exposure Ninja, so in this week’s episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim is very happy to welcome our very own Lozz Newton back to the podcast airwaves!
For the next few weeks, we'll be taking you behind the scenes of some of our most successful client campaigns with the ninjas involved, sharing exactly how we achieved these remarkable results and showing you how you can do the same for your business!
In this episode, Lozz lifts the curtain on a recent bestselling book launch Facebook Ad campaign that we ran for the award-winning blogger behind Honest Mum, Vicki Psarias.
Lozz explains the strategy we used for this book launch campaign, going into detail about targeting, the use of testimonials and celebrity endorsements, setting up, testing and tracking the ads, and how to go about leveraging the most successful ad sets to maximise visibility and qualified clicks. He also explores some of the challenges of driving traffic, and tracking that traffic, when your product isn't on your own website -- in this instance, we were driving customers to Amazon which means we couldn't add the Facebook Pixel.
In this week’s episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim is joined by Aaron Krause, the marketing behemoth behind Scrub Daddy — America's favourite sponge and Shark Tank's most successful product ever!
Aaron has built the Scrub Daddy brand into something quite extraordinary — 40% market recognition in the US and he recently sold over half a million sponges in Germany, in a single month!
In this episode, Aaron takes us behind the scenes of Scrub Daddy's spectacular growth using, arguably, one of the most difficult marketing channels there is, live TV.
This is a super interesting episode, covering every aspect of Scrub Daddy's marketing including social media, video advertising, and their overall approach to brand building — tonnes of takeaways in this episode, so pull up a chair and enjoy!
In this week’s episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim is joined by Greg Gifford — one of the world’s foremost experts on local SEO, VP of search at DealerOn and the official SEO Guru for SEMRush Academy.
This week, Tim dives into the fascinating world of local SEO with Greg, who shares his expertise on how to increase your visibility in local map listings, how to increase your visibility in local organic listings, as well as some of his top tips on review collection, how to get local links and citations, and what to do with your Google My Business page to increase its chances of ranking!
Greg is a super enthusiastic SEO expert with LOADS of actionable advice to share (way more than we could fit into a 35-minute podcast episode), so make sure you get out there and connect with Greg, you can find all his relevant pages and social media links in the show notes.

Tim and Stacey dive into Jen’s marketing strategy and find out how a bag company that’s only two-years-old has managed to win so many awards and get featured in some of the fashion industry’s top online media -- we’re talking Grazia, InStyle and Glamsquad to name but a few.
Jen also walks us through her ‘accidental’ influencer marketing strategy that has helped her to engage with her customers and grow a dedicated tribe of women that champion the brand on a daily basis!
Jen is super fun and the guys had a blast recording this one -- enjoy!

In this week’s episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, we’re talking about how to get traffic and sales from Reddit with Brent Csutoras of PeakActivity and Search Engine Journal fame!
Now, if you’re anything like us, you probably think that Reddit is just an old skool, slightly geeky corner of the internet where you find all sorts of random stuff, from x-rated pics to in-jokes and memes…
Well, prepare yourself for a solid change of mindset — Reddit gets 14 billion page views PER MONTH and is ranked the fourth most popular site in the U.S. by Alexa, furthermore, brands that earn a moment in the Reddit spotlight report up to four times the impressions of other social channels!
The engagement levels on Reddit are unlike any other site on the web and Brent Csutoras is an absolute pro at navigating the somewhat intimidating realm of Reddit marketing to generate monster traffic, leads and sales for his clients’ businesses.
So, if you’re ready to break into the world of Reddit with your business, pull up a chair and crack open a fresh notebook as Brent takes us into the world of Reddit marketing and shares a sound strategy that you can use to start breaking down and understanding how to use Reddit to grow your business!

In this week’s episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim is joined by Colin Gray of The Podcast Host, a platform dedicated to teaching you ‘how to podcast’ — from setting up a podcast and what equipment to use, to growing your audience and getting your episodes ranking.
While Colin is a bonafide podcast expert, we’ve actually got him onto the show to talk about Content Marketing. He’s managed to build some ridiculous visibility for The Podcast Host — they’re up to 100,000 organic sessions per month on their website, which is pretty incredible stuff!
Colin’s built some huge rankings for his site and the various podcasts he hosts and helps to run, all through writing really good quality content and then repurposing that content into high-quality videos and podcast episodes.
So, in this episode, Colin takes us through his content production process — from identifying the type of content that will bring traffic onto his site to how he gets this content ranking to maximise visibility and build engagement.
Colin’s a super interesting guy with tons of useful insights and tips to help you level up content marketing game. So, grab a notepad and pen, find a comfy spot and enjoy the show!

In this week’s episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim is joined by Louise Doherty from PlanSnap, an app that helps you make plans quickly and get together with friends with the tap of just a few buttons.
Now, Louise actually got the idea for PlanSnap whilst working on a ridiculously successful influencer marketing campaign for ASOS.
So, in this episode, not only does Louise give us a taste of what PlanSnap is and how they’re planning to market and scale this new product, she also takes us behind the scenes of the influencer strategy she implemented at ASOS that saw them work with 300+ of the UK’s top fashion influencers — getting them all blogging, tweeting, Instagramming, generally just buzzing about ASOS online!
But before you write this episode off as one for the big business folk, stick with us — the ASOS campaign is completely scalable, so whether you’re looking to work with one influencer or 500, you can scale up or scale down this strategy to suit your needs and STILL get positive results!!
Whether you’re already working with influencers or it’s something that’s been on your marketing plan to-do list for a while, there’s tons of useful, actionable information in this podcast episode — so grab a notepad and pen and get stuck in!

In this week’s episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim is joined by Daniel Siden from Lightvert, a media technology company developing awesome new outdoor advertising technology that you can only see in your eye — it’s pretty futuristic stuff that we’ll let Daniel explain in more detail (and more eloquently) in the podcast!
But, despite the total mind-blowing, Star Trek-esque nature of Lightvert’s tech (which I’m sure we could dedicate an entire podcast to without even trying as it’s so cool), we actually got Daniel on the show to talk about crowdfunding.
These guys executed a phenomenal crowdfunding campaign with some killer marketing behind it, which, considering they had the extra challenge of having to explain their concept and sell this brand new idea to people, is a whole new level of impressive!
Daniel shares some great insights with us about the whole process and about the importance of social proof — how you build up credibility behind a new idea and how to build your tribe, so that when your crowdfunding campaign goes live, you’ve got a good response guaranteed.
This one’s a real cracker for anyone that’s trying to raise seed funding for a new idea or looking at other ways to raise capital for their business outside of the traditional ‘get investors’ route.

In this week’s episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, we’re delighted to welcome one of our hardcore fans, Hemmel Amrania, who’s been listening to us right from episode one!
But Hemmel is no ordinary fan, after listening to our content and attending one of our online SEO courses, he decided to set-up his own business in his spare time which he very quickly grew, making £4K profit PER DAY operating solely from his bedroom!
His secret… he went to the dark side with Google Adwords — we’re talking full-on, master of the dark arts, he-who-must-not-be-named, black hat Adwords magic here guys (which is something we absolutely DO NOT recommend you use on your own campaigns, but is, nevertheless, a story we couldn’t resist hearing more about!)
So, in this episode, Tim and Hemmel discuss exactly what he did and how he got his Adwords campaign converting so well on what were essentially banned products!
The guys highlight the white hat takeaways from Hemmel’s campaign that saw him achieve a 30% conversion rate, with an average ROI of 1000%, and share the processes he adopted to maximise his campaign’s efficiency and supercharge those conversions!
It’s really a fascinating story from a very switched on guy — Enjoy!

NOTE: We apologise for Madhav’s sound quality in this episode - we’ve done our best to clean it up but you may need to listen a little harder than usual on this one - but it's totally worth it, we promise!
In this week’s episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim is joined by the head of content marketing at Hubstaff, Madhav Bhandari.
For those that don’t know, Hubstaff is an online time-tracking software with screenshot integration which runs on your desktop or as a mobile app. Once the time is tracked you can invoice clients, pay employees and see in-depth reporting, which is super useful for businesses with remote teams like ours!
We actually started using Hubstaff at Exposure Ninja back when they first burst onto the scene around 2013 and we’ve watched them grow before our very eyes. Now, they have over 8,000 remote teams using Hubstaff daily and in the last three years they’ve gone from $220K to $4M in annual revenue, so we’ve brought Madhav on the show to find out exactly how they did it.
From their SEO strategy to their Content Marketing approach, in this episode, we get right to the nitty-gritty of what Hubstaff have been doing to supercharge their ranking and convert so many organic visitors into free-trial sign-ups and eventually paying customers.

Running online contests are a great way to generate some serious visibility for your brand.

Hands up who’s down with the kids and uses Snapchat? Ok, keep your hand up if you’ve ever used Snapchat for your business? No, us neither…
Nowadays, simply selling to your audience on social media is boring and won’t garner the kind of engagement that you want and need to succeed. You need to entertain your audience in order to get them engaged enough to care about you and your message. Enter Snapchat...
In this episode, we welcome Miri Qylafi from Snapchat marketing agency, Fanbytes. Miri is a bonafide Snapchat guru, having run hundreds of really cool campaigns for huge global brands, as well as smaller more niche businesses.
Snapchat offers a platform for a new style of playful engagement that the folks at Fanbytes have fittingly dubbed ADVERTAINMENT. Snapchat is an entirely different beast to the other popular Social Media platforms and to really succeed there, you can’t use the same tactics that you have used on Facebook and Instagram. It’s a platform where people go to have fun, play, not take their online presence too seriously, and be themselves.
The personal, raw, authentic feel of Snapchat undoubtedly requires different strategies to engage with your audience, but it also offers a unique opportunity to capture your customers' attention and generate authentic and meaningful engagements.
So, whether you’re looking to add Snapchap into your marketing strategy, or if you’re simply looking for ways to be more playful with your existing marketing campaign, this podcast will give you some fantastic tips and ideas to not only engage with Generation Z but win them over completely!

This week on the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast we're super excited to welcome the founder of the journalist enquiry service, Help a Reporter Out (HARO), and current CEO of ShankMinds and The Geek Factory Inc., Peter Shankman.
Peter started his career in PR and after building up a considerable contact list (and a reputation in the industry for being the go-to guy for a connection) he launched HARO in 2008. The platform single-handedly revolutionised the way journalists and sources found each other online, paving the way for other outreach platforms and software that so many of us use and rely on today - Gorkana and Response Source to name but a few.
More recently Peter has focused some of his never-ending energy on the importance of customer service; during this episode he offers some stellar advice about how to cut through the noise and really listen and engage with your audience, enabling you to provide the best possible experience for your customers.
We also delve into Peter’s ADHD, which he claims is the source of his unusually high energy levels and extreme productivity. We discuss some of the concepts from his new book, Faster Than Normal, which he hopes will provide insight and helpful hacks for anyone who wants to harness a ‘faster than normal’ brain to be less distracted and more productive!

Are you one of those business owners feeling super frustrated with Social Media and thinking it’s a complete waste of time?
For many businesses, their choice of marketing activity is about what makes them the most money, fast, with Social Media often perceived as a ‘softer’ or ‘longer term’ strategy than something like PPC. But if used correctly, Social Media can be a fantastic platform to engage with your target audience and catapult your sales into the stratosphere!
This week on the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim meets Social Media Guru, Jessica Gioglio who is best known for transforming Dunkin’ Donuts’ Social Media from rocky beginnings to one of the most often-cited examples of a brand doing social right. In this episode, Jessica shares how businesses of any size can use social media more effectively, particularly through storytelling.
With a broad background working with big companies like Dunkin’ and Tripadvisor to smaller, more niche SMEs, Jessica is well placed to give us the lowdown on how to be successful on social, with some fantastic nuggets of wisdom and advice about what you can do right now to skyrocket your social engagement with the people that matter, your customers!

Subscription boxes are a very popular marketing model at the moment. There’s likely a subscription box for absolutely anything you can think of. Dog food? Beauty products? Dive bar shirts? Chakra-aligning hippie paraphernalia? Yep, there’s a subscription box for all of that.
This week on the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim meets with Michael Salguero, CEO and Founder of ButcherBox. Mike had one of those rare niche ideas that did not have a subscription box already, and ButcherBox was created. As its name suggests, ButcherBox is a curated selection of monthly mail-delivery grass-fed meat boxes. Borne out of Mike’s own experience buying and sharing whole grass-fed cows with friends and discovering the health advantages of naturally-raised meat, he also discovered that only 1% of the total beef consumed in the United States was 100% grass-fed.
Following that was an immensely successful Kickstarter that raised 75K within three days, and 215K by the end of their campaign (the initial target was 25K). Along the way, a famous paleo author tweeted about the campaign, which in turn brought even more backers and subscribers. From there, ButcherBox leveraged the power of influencer marketing in ways that may surprise you!
Two years on, ButcherBox can pride themselves of having such wide brand recognition as being first in the grass-fed category in Google searches, and even being bigger than the category itself.
Tune in this week to hear more about ButcherBox’s inspiring subscription box model and influencer marketing story. Don’t forget to check out ButcherBox.com and use MIKE30 for $30 off and free bacon!

Direct-response television marketing, also known as infomercials, are extremely popular in the US. This is a medium where the audience has a remote control in one hand, ready to click away at the first sign of being bored. Anyone who makes money in this environment where it cost tens of thousands of dollars to just run a test is worth listening to.
On this episode of the Exposure Ninja Digital Marketing Podcast, Tim talks with Michael Alden, one of America’s most successful and recognised infomercial hosts. Michael has overseen hundreds of infomercials in a range of markets and has a wonderful insight on the elements of the most successful infomercial campaigns. Infomercials are often selling something that the audience didn’t know they wanted or needed — and Michael is a master at convincing them of both.
Did you know that Barack Obama ran three one-hour infomercials on him, his campaign and his vision, with a donation call to action at the end? Michael believes that this contributed to getting him elected, and this goes to show the power of infomercials! Brand building, testimonials and social proof are all part of the mix, but there is so much more you can learn in this week’s episode.
Make sure you don’t change the channel on this one to learn the powerful psychology behind direct response marketing and get tangible examples on how you too can leverage Michael’s advice to build your own brand, while generating more sales.
