Understatement alert!!! Accountants aren’t known for their creative marketing. But in this episode, we talk with Diane Gardner who has relabelled herself a ‘tax coach’ in order to position her business completely separately to the crowd.

She shares the process that she went through to find her unique angle, and how it’s enabled her to use content and authority marketing to build a brand around her services that ‘regular’ accountants wouldn’t be able to build.

So whether you’re a service business like Diane’s or not, this episode will get those creative juices flowing so that you can start to think about how your audience sees you, and what key benefits you could draw out and reposition to make your marketing message resonate much louder with your perfect customers.

In this episode, Rob Greenlee from podcast platform Spreaker shares his insights on where podcast advertising is at now, and where it’s headed. Rob has been in podcasting since before it was a ‘thing’ and has seen it mushroom in popularity over the last few years. The ways that businesses use it to advertise has also changed, so hear Rob give his recommendations on the advertising methods that are proving most effective, how to find the best shows to advertise with, and what sort of results you should expect.

So many startups treat the pursuit of funding as their primary goal, rather than creating a profitable marketing funnel that allows them to scale. Jessica Mah, CEO of inDinero, has done both and learned the hard way that, when it comes to growth, nothing beats a profitable business with a scalable marketing funnel.

In this episode, she takes us through inDinero’s story from inception to success via some very rocky times. She shares her ‘boom to bust’ experience, the decision to pivot inDinero’s offering, and takes us behind the scenes of their current marketing funnel (Clue: their website’s CTA will surprise you).

If you’re a SaaS business, service company, a startup, you’re seeking funding, or you just want to generate more leads, you’ll find Jessica’s story inspiring and cautionary in equal measure. Enjoy!

If you’re a small business taking on large competitors, here’s a marketing case study that you’ll find fascinating.

In a market dominated by huge blockbuster novels and multi million dollar promotion budgets, there’s an undercurrent of very successful underground ‘niche’ authors. No surprises there, you might think.

What *is* a surprise though is how groups of these authors have turned to collaboration to pool their resources, cross promote to each other’s audiences, and create new types of books targeted at hitting bestseller lists.

This episode’s guest is Meg Cowley, successful indie author and generally switched on marketer. She takes us behind the scenes of the indie author movement and reveals a world where Amazon SEO, joint ventures, lead generation, and marketing Facebook groups are as important as the books themselves. There are lessons here for any business competing with large, well-funded rivals, and it’s great to hear how the Internet provides space for specialist niche offerings to build large, rabid followings.

Creativity can be one of the most challenging sales to make, particularly when you are selling your own. There is no shortage of independent writers, musicians, and artists who never get to the stage where they are able to effectively monetise their product, so to hear from someone who has built their business using these strategies just demonstrates how universal these principles really are.

Our guest in this episode has built a network of websites which now totally dominate his market online. Not just on Google search, but on every social channel. If you’re in the market for online drum lessons, you cannot fail to end up on the Drumeo email list, and we bought in Jared Falk to talk about how he’s built the brand using organic and paid traffic.

We discuss how he’s grown the website, changed their content angles and used Youtube and Facebook to flood the market with their content, all from a place of wanting to provide as much value as possible.

It’s fascinating to hear Jared’s story and his approach to building goodwill in his market, so whether you’re selling information products or you want to share your expertise online, this episode will get the juices flowing about how to expand your reach and take more of your competitors’ lunches.

Perry Marshall is digital marketing royalty and in this episode, we discuss how to apply the 80/20 principle to your digital marketing efforts to multiply the results of your marketing time and energy whilst reducing time spent on low-value work.
